BoA of Ruggell image by M. Schmöger, 17 September 2009

  • Arms blazoning (English): Gules, a two-leafed corn ear Or issuant from a bar abased wavy Azure fimbriated Argent.
  • Arms granted: by Francis Joseph II, the reigning prince, in August 1956 (Kranz [kra82d] says August 16th while Jäger-Sunstenau [jsu73] says August 5th)
  • Reasons for the arms: the ear for the agricultural victory over the Rhine, that is symbolized by the bar wavy; the colours blue and red are the national ones (Sources: [kra82d] [l9i85] [jsu73])

Horizontally striped design

(Fanciful design!)
fanciful flag of Ruggell
image by António Martins, 15 March 2012

There is an image of the letter-of-arms showing a drawing of the flag, this being a rather ancient-looking staff with a long horizontal flag with a ratio of about 1:3 (stripes from top to bottom blue-yellow-red). This is merely a nice drawing and certainly never used like that.
