Flag

Located in Kariya City Aichi Prefecture and established in 1949. The flag is white background with the dark blue symbol mark in the center. It was designed by university professor Yutaka Takehara (now professor emeritus) using the Japanese iris flower as a prefectural flower. The symbol mark is a circle symbolizing the harmony among students, faculty, and staff that make up the university, with Japanese iris flower as the image of that harmony. The university is located near "Yatsuhashi, Mikawa-no-kuni" (present-day Yatsuhashi Town, Chiryu City), which was the setting of the eastward journey of "Ise Monogatari" (The Tale of Ise). Nearby is Kozutsumi-nishi Pond, which is known for its Japanese iris flower as well as Yatsuhashi. It is one of Japan's three largest native Japanese iris flower growing area and this colony is designated as a national natural monument. Every year from mid to late May, purple flowers bloom all over the community.
