Overview

Sermersooq (Kalaallisut: Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq) is a new municipality in Greenland, created on 1 January 2009. Its seat is Nuuk (formerly called Godthab), the capital of Greenland, and is the most populous municipality in the country. The municipality consists of former municipalities of eastern and southwestern Greenland: Ammassalik, Ittoqqortoormiit, Ivittuut, Nuuk and Paamiut.
Its flag is white with its shield in the middle of the flag. The shield is white charged with inuit stone-emblem, a yellow sun, and blue wavy stripes representing the sea. Ratio of flag is 2:3.
