Presentation of Navafría

The municipality of Navafría (382 inhabitants in 2009; 3,043 ha) is located in the south-east of Segovia Province. Puerto de Navafría, a pass located at 1,773 m asl in the Sierra de Guadarrama, forms the border between Castilla y León and the Autonomous Community of Madrid. A nordic ski resort was set up in Puerto de Navafría in November 2007.

Symbols of Navafría

The flag and arms of Navafría are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 4 March 2005 by the Municipal Council, signed on 10 June 2005 by the Mayor, and published on 20 June 2005 in the official gazette of Castile and León, No. 118, p. 10,722 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: Rectangular flag, with proportions 2:3, made of two vertical stripes with proportions 1:3 and 2:3, at hoist yellow with a green pine eradicated at fly white with a blue wavy diagonal stripe from the upper hoist to the lower fly.
Coat of arms: Tierced per bend, 1. Argent a grill sable, 2. A bend wavy azure, 3. Or a pine eradicated vert. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.

The pine represents the Navafría pinewood (5,000 ha).
