Shield parted per fess, above Argent two hammers Sable in saltire, beneath Azure three 6-point stars Or ordered 2:1.
Meaning:
The basic tinctures are those of Bayern. The shield parted per fess and the stars are taken from the family arms of the Lords of Freyberg, who ruled Hohenaschau from the 14th century until the beginning of the 17th century. They played an important economic role in the Bergen corner as owners of a mining company. The crossed hammers are referring to mining of ore. In 1562 Pankraz of Freyberg founded a hammer mill. In 1750 the local ironworks employed 750 workers. It was destroyed by fire in 1816 and rebuilt and was known as Maximilianshütte since 1824. The ore was taken from the nearby mine in Eisenärzt until 1881. Business was stopped in 1928/1932 due to logistical problems and the worldwide economic crisis. Since 2002 there is a mining museum in the buildings of the company.
