Schleswig City Plain Flag

At the Schleswig official website (...) colours given for the logo are (CMYK) blue 100-80-0-0, yellow 0-0-100-0. The flag colours on that page look identical. The flag seems to have been adopted in the 1930s; the colours are the colours of the Duchy, later regional division, of Schleswig.
Jarig Bakker, 8 Nov 1999

The flag of Schleswig is blue-yellow. Schleswig is not a county-free city, it the seat of Schleswig-Flensburg county. The colours are obviously derived from the Duchy of Schleswig.

Schleswig City Coat of Arms

Shield Azure, above a base wavy Azure charged with three barrulets wavy Argent an embattled wall Or topped by an embattled tower of the same, flanked by an impending vaning crescent Or at dexter and an impending 6-point star Or at sinister.
Meaning:
Schleswig was already an important town in the 10th century and seat of a bishopric since 934. In 1100 the city was enlarged and became the capital of the newly formed Duchy of Schleswig, formed by the Kings of Denmark. The current arms are based on the oldest city seal from 1250 with prints since 1299 and already display the same pattern. The colours are not historical, but are based on the colours of the Duchy of Schleswig. The castle is either the oldest castle of the dukes on an island within the Schlei or the castle of the bishops in the Burgsee (= castle lake). Moon and crescent are probably related to shipping. The waves are symbolising the bay of Schlei.

The arms were approved on 7 June 1935 by province governor (Oberpräsident) of Prussian Schleswig-Holstein province. The (plain) flag was adopted on 14 December 2006 and published in the local Hauptsatzung, version 2006. The information is confirmed by §1(2) of version 18 July 2016. The flag with arms has never been approved officially.
