Bad Griesbach Coat of Arms

Shield Gules with base wavy Vert, issuant from base a rock Argent.
Meaning:
Griesbach had been a market town for ages and gained city rights in 1953. In 1835 the local council claimed that arms had been granted in 1557 by Duke Albrecht of Bayern, which is believable. First evidence was given on the print of a town seal from 1579. The arms are considered to be canting, referring to a rock (Bavarian: Gries) and a creek (German: Bach). The tinctures remained basically the same. After erroneous depictions from the 17th until the 19th century, the correct arms were restored without approval in 1952.

The plain banner was approved on 17 May 1954 by Minister of Interior of Bayern. The arms were approved on 10 October 1972 by district governor (Regierungspräsident) of Niederbayern.
