Pyrbaum Coat of Arms

Shield Gules an eradicated pear tree Vert with pears Or.
Meaning:
The arms are canting. Pyrbaum (English: pear tree) is derived from Birnbaum, which had also been the old name of the town. The identifying pears had been seen very clearly on the local court seal from the 15th century displayed on a targe. Seal and arms wer granted to village and court byEmperor Karl V, before the village had been upgraded to a market town in 1540. Pyrbaum was core of an enclave, which formed, together with the enclave of Sulzbürg, a lordship under direct imperial rule, ruled by the Barons of Wolfstein, who had been upgraded to counts later. The pears were omitted since the 18th century. The pear tree changed to a usual deciduous tree. The pears were restored in the 20th century.
