Neubiberg Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a celestial blue shield os a golden (= yellow) winged man. The shield has a silver chief, superimposed by two celestial blue water lily leaves being intertwined with one another.
Meaning:
The leaves are a modification (in tincture) oft he arms of Tegernsee Monastery and are reminding on the fact that Unterbiberg was first mentioned in 1017 within a document of the monastery. The winged man is representing the garden city of Neubiberg, established in 1912. When in 1933 a motorway and an airport for the German Air Force were finished, the population of Neubiberg increased. The air base was used from 1945 until 1958 by the US Air Force and afterwards again by the German Air Force. Since 1974 it is also the seat of the university of the German armed forces. Thus Unterbiberg had been renamed into Neubiberg on 1 January 1975.
