Südliche Weinstraße County Coat of Arms

Meaning:
The county was established as Landau-Bad Bergzabern County and kept this name until 31 December 1977. The arms are based on the old arms of the Landau County. The lion is that one of the Pfalz, the cross is taken from the arms of Bishopric of Speyer and the grapes as well as the white fess symbolise the Weinstraße (i.e. road of viticulture or road of wine). The crown is taken from the arms of the Bergzabern County. Both the Palatine Counts of Rhine and the bishopric owned large parts of the area.
