The flag's ratio is 3:5. It is a black over white over green horizontal bicolour with ratio 1:2:1. The arrow from the coat of arms is shifted to the hoist.

Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a silver (=white) shield is a black arrow.
Meaning:
According to source the arms are canting, another word for arrow is "beam" (German: Strahl), symbolizing the city's name.
Straelen became city in 1387, lost however that title under the rule of the Bonapartes and regained the title in 1928.

Flag, banner and coat of arms were approved by Regierungspräsident Düsseldorf on 6 August 1971. So we have to conclude, that the flag described by Stadler (see below) didn't exist, there must have been the flag described above instead.

Description of current flag:
The flag's ratio is 3:5. It is a white flag with a green edge at the hoist and a black one at the flyend and the coat of arms in its centre.
