Neusalza-Spremberg Coat of Arms

Shield Gules a fleur-de-lis Argent.
Meaning:
The fleur-de-lis is taken from the arms of the Salza family. The pattern changed in minor details, especially the shape of the shield. Spremberg was first mentioned in 1272. In 1670 C.F. of Salza, owner of an estate, settled religious refugees from Böhmen (Bohemia)and Ungarn in the village. In 1673 they were freed from the bounds of feudalism. Spremberg belonged to the Electorate of Sachsen and gained city rights in 1674. Neusalza had been a nearby village. In both settlements linen weaving and trading, cotton spinning and the production of buttons had been the main business lines. Spremberg and Neusalza were united in 1920.
