The shield is golden, divided by a red cross, superimposing a black mattock and a black key in saltire. The centre of the cross is charged with a silver 6-spokes wheel. The shield has a red base charged with a silver serpent.
Meaning:
The serpent was the only figure displayed in the local seal from 1953 until 1994. The mattock probably is representing the suffix "-rode", a settlement created by forest clearance. The wheel is representing the Archbishops of Mainz, the former rulers.
