Schemmerhofen Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale, at dexter Or, issuant from base three bulrushes Sable, at sinister Or, an abbot's crozier Or, intertwined with a capital "S" of the same.
The bulrushes are symbolising the merger of in total seven former municipalities until 1972. The municipality's name is said to be derived from "Schiemen" (= bulrush). Gold and black had been the colours of the Counts of Stadion, rulers in the Lordship of Warthausen, to which most parts of the municipality belonged. The crozier is referring to many monasteries, especially Salem, which owned great estates in the area. The capital is also referring to the historical Biberach Hospital.
