In contrast to other Swiss cantons, there are no official district flags in the canton of Zurich. If
the districts are still to be represented, the flags of the district capitals are used. The Affoltern
district is an exception. The flag of the former Freiamt is used today unofficially for the Affoltern
district. The Freiamt was part of the Knonau bailiwick. The emblem with the wall anchor
cross [rather: trammel-hooks] goes back to the coat of arms of the Baron von Eschenbach (The Affoltern district is geographically
not identical to the former Freiamt).
