Municipality

The municipality of Nova Candélaria (2,751 inhabitants in 2010; 9,800 ha) is located 480 km north-west of Porto Alegre.

Nova Candélaria was established in 1935 by settlers coming from the Old Colonies region.
The municipality of Nova Candélaria was established by State Law No. 10,635 promulgated on 28 December 1995, separating from Boa Vista de Buricá.

Symbols

The flag and arms of Nova Candélaria are prescribed by Municipal Law No. 47 promulgated on 18 June 1997.

The flag features a cross, as a symbol of faith and Christian religion, and a circle, as a symbol of infinity.
Yellow (or) has for heraldic meaning splendor, wealth, generosity, nobleness, glory, power, sovereignty, force, faith and prosperity.
Black (sable) represents strength, constancy, prudence, simplicity, knowledge, science, gravity, honesty, firmness, obedience and moderation.
White (argent) indicates felicity, purity, temperance, beauty, truth, frankness, integrity and friendship.
The elements or, sable and gules, and the eagle together represent the [German] homeland of the region's first settlers.

Municipal website

The coat of arms features an Iberian shield that evokes the early colonizers and builders of the nation.
The spread-winged eagle is the bird's king and the symbol of power, prosperity, elevated aspirations, elevated achievements and triumph.
The bordure is a sign of protection. The fleurs-de-lis, Our Lady's emblem, refer to the municipality's patron saint, Our Lady of the Purification. The bees are a symbol of industry, activity, work, sweetness and parsimony.
The mural crown is a symbol of political emancipation; its eight towers, five visible, are proper to a "cidade"; its open gates argent proclaim hospitality of the people of Nova Candélaria.
The soybean, maize and wheat plants emphasize the fertility of the municipality's generous soil, being important products and basic factors of the municipal economy.
The scroll gules is charged with the toponym "NOVA CANDELÁRIA" identifying the municipality.
