About the flag

On official site of Goverment of Region of Murmansk (North-West Russia) are new projects of flag and coat of arms of Region of Russia. Flag is 2: 3, blue stripe att. at red strip as 4:1, length of aurora is width of flag, width of aurora is 2/5 of width of flag.

On official web-site of Government of Region of Murmansk are official text of regional law (in Russian) and official images of flag and CoA of Region of Murmansk by new regional law. On June, 4, 2004 Duma (Council) of Region of Murmansk in the first reading had been accepted the Law of Region of Murmansk About the Coat of Arms and the Flag of Region of Murmansk:

Coat of Arms:

In azur (blue) head is gold polar lights (aurore). In gules (red) field are crossed gold anchor and silver pick and silver sword.

Flag:

The flag of Region of Murmansk represents a rectangular cloth with the attitude of width to length as 2:3, consisting of two unequal horizontal stripes: in top 4 parts — blue color and in bottom 1 part — red color. In blue strip bears gold image of the polar lights (aurore) is located on center of a strip, length equal to width of flag, the general width is 2/5 of width of flag.

The polar lights (aurore) symbolizes an arrangement of Region of Murmansk for Polar circle.

  • The Anchor - a symbol of navigation, fishing.
  • The Pick - a symbol of the mining industry.
  • The Sword - a symbol of military work and military glory.
  • Azure color - a symbol of beauty and greatness.
  • Red color - a symbol of courage and force.
  • Gold - a symbol of riches.
  • Silver - a symbol of cleanliness.

This law will enter force after the second and third reading in the Murmansk regional Duma and signings by his Governor of Region of Murmansk

From Murmansk I’ve got the answer that there are nor coat of arms nor flag of Murmansk region because the laws about symbols of Murmansk region were not passed yet.

According to 51.ru/news.php?news=32980, a project of the flag of Murmansk oblast has been presented at Murmansk regional art museum (15 March 2002). Polar lights, nothern deer, fish and tools for mining works should be present on the arms and flag. Colours of the flag should be red, white and blue as on national flag.
