It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain purple field.

Coat of arms

Shield Argent with base wavy of Azure and Argent,, a fessy key Purpure between a rounded cross patty Gules above and a grapevine Purpure leaved Vert beneath. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials: "SÃO PEDRO DE TOMAR".
Meaning:
The key is an attribute of St. Peter, name giver of the commune and local patron saint. The cross is alluding to the Order of the Templars.

Presentation of São Pedro de Tomar

São Pedro de Tomar Commune is one of the 11 communes of the Tomar municipality (q.v.); it had 3027 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 35.8 km². Until 1961 the name of the commune was São Pedro da Beberriqueira.
