Coat of arms

Shield Or, a bar wavy Azure charged with barrulet wavy Argent, in base three 5-point stars Gules ordered 2:1, in chief a goshawk volant proper. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "ÁGUA RETORTA - POVOAÇÃO".
The goshawk is a local symbol of the Açores. The communes name means "winding water", thus the fess wavy is a canting element.
