Description of the flag

White stylized bush clover as prefecture tree on green field. The three leaves stand for progress of Miyagi, unity and friendship of the people. Bush clover is also stylized Hiragana character of Mi (み) of Miyagi. Both the prefecture flag and emblem was adopted 15 July 1966 by Notice No. 499. The flag proportion is 2: 3.

Miyagi Prefecture previous flag was adopted on July 15th 1966. The flag proportion was 7: 10. The flag was abolished and the proportion was changed to 2: 3 on Nov 16th 1999 by Notice No 1294.

Miyagi Prefecture fishery inspection vessel ensign was adopted on Jul 15th 1966 which is red ensign charged with blue water emblem stylized kanji 水 with white fimbriation and green prefecture emblem of stylized hiragana み Mi of Miyagi on a white disc in the center.

Miyagi Prefecture former Fishery Inspection Vessel ensign was adopted in 1934 by Notice No 110. The red ensign has blue logo mark of stylized kanji 水 mizu = water with white fimbriation and stylized kanji 宮 Miya of Miyagi in black in white disk in the center.

The aubergine flag is charged with a gold sun and rays as a Miyagi Prefecture Police emblem.

The Miyagi Sports Association, a public interest incorporated foundation, has established a symbol mark to commemorate the 5th anniversary of the merger of the Miyagi Sports Promotion Foundation and the Miyagi Prefecture Sports Association in April 2022, and to promote understanding of the philosophy and activities of the association. The symbol mark was created based on the design by Akiha Abe, a third-year student at Miyagino High School, who won the Grand Prize from among 22 entries mainly from high school students in Miyagi Prefecture, under the supervision of Professor Fumiko Tsurumaki of Tohoku Seikatsu Bunka University, who was one of the judges. about the symbol mark The "M" of Miyagi Prefecture is superimposed on the crescent moon of the roof of Miyagi Stadium to express a powerful sense of dynamism. The colors and shapes represent sports and culture, yellow represents the bright future, and blue represents the blue sky and a sense of freshness. The small green circle represents the fair spirit and peace of sports and culture, and the large red circle represents passion. The red circle represents passion and enthusiasm. The overlapping of the two symbols represents the creation of an inspiring space through sports and culture for many residents of the prefecture, from children to adults, for a bright future.
