Overview

I received today another departamental flag of Guatemala: the flag of Solola.
The flag is a vertical triband of green-yellow-green. The shield of the capital is included in the central band.
Jaume Ollé , 24 December 1997

Communication by Mr Pedro Iboy Chiroy, Mayor of the Municipal Corporation of the Department of Solola, 9 October 1997:
As in the case of several Latin American countries the flag of the department of Solola carries in the center the coat of arms of the capital. This seems to be due to the fact that the Municipal Corporation of the city has jurisdiction on all the department.
Ratio (according to the drawing made by computer and transmitted to me) c. 8:21.
Jaume Ollé and Fred Drew from Flag Report

Fred sent this one as the flag of the department, but the seal clearly states Municipalidad de Sololá, and the slogan implies it is a city (Ciudad del Paisaje = City Landscape). It appears that the department flag is the same, based on the rather stretched looking version as reported previously, but likely with different text.

The Seal

Detail of the seal that figure in the flag (the departmental coat of arms and that of the Municipality are similar but rounded and multicolored). The drawing has as backgound a mountain and lake, continuing with vast fields with vegetation and little houses, and on the foreground a Guatemalan peasant woman on cultivated land.
