Presentation of Rethymnis & Kulukundis

Rethymnis & Kulukundis was a Greek company established in London (see Counties Ship Management Co.).
The internet shows traces of ships of the company between the years 1930 and 1942, which is given a second seat, Greek this time, at Pireaus. The company name is sometimes rendered as Rethymnis & Kulukundis (Hellas), which seems logical in the circumstances. Another name which crops up is Atlanticos Steamship, owned by these business partners and having two company seats as well.

The company was presented as follows on the website of the National Maritime Museum (Greenwich, UK) (page no longer online).

Founded by members of a Greek family who had long been involved with the shipping industry. The Kulukundis family set up a shipping agency in London called Rethymnis & Kulukundis Ltd in 1920. In 1936 the firm moved into ship owning. In 1940, three of the brothers - Manuel, George and Michael transferred their activities to New York, while John Kulukundis and a cousin Basil Mavroleon remained in London to run their ships under the control of the Ministry of War Transport.
