Presentation of ARPV

Association Rochelaise de Pêche à Vapeur (ARPV - La Rochelle Steam Fishing Association) was founded in 1912 in La Rochelle by four shipowners involved in fishing (V. Bousquet, P. Gufflet, R. Maubaillarcq and H. Véron) to sell fish directly via a shared organism. Five more companies (A. Marty, H. Rivaille, Société de Pêche et d'Armement de l'Ouest, Pêcherie et Armement La Rochelle Océan and Société des Pêches du Sud-Ouest) joined the association in 1920. Subsequently transformed into a company, ARPV operated 87 trawlers from 1912 to 1984, and is, therefore, the French fishing company with the biggest cumulated numbers of operated ships.

The Angoumois trawler (1969), operated by ARPV in 1969-1978 and by SARMA in 1978-1991, was offerred in 1993 to the Maritime Museum of La Rochelle; kept afloat and open to visit, the ship was registered as an historic monument on 6 September 1993.

H. Véron, a shipowner from La Rochelle, was in 1912 one of the four founders of ARPV. In 1926, a court case opposed him, together with Captain Madec, commander of the trawler Gascogne to the Register of Sailors administration.
The company was still active in 1938.

The house flag of Véron, as shown in the 1922 Yearbook of the Central Committee of the France Shipowners, is white with a red saltire.
