Yachting Club de Décines (YCD) was established in 1964 in Grand Large, a 150 ha man-made lake located east of Lyon.
Established at the end of the 19th century to supply water from river Rhône to the hydro-electric plant of Cusset via the Jonage Canal (19 km), the lake will be managed by EDF (Électricit√© de France, the national energy company) until 2041. No longer used for electricity production, the lake is now a site of leisure. In partnership with EDF, a syndicate grouping the neighboring municipalities of Villeurbanne, Vaulx-en-Velin, Décines-Charpieu, Meyzieu, Jonage and Jons, aims at developing the potential of the site as an urban landscape, a biodiversity spot, and a sports and leisure place.
