The company was established in 1968 by Captain Jens Rohde Nielsen as Rederiet J. Rohde Nielson ApS and is based in København, noted in 1992 as agents only. At least since 1998 there was a fleet under own name. The flag is light blue with white company logo, "RN" and wavy line, either placed horizontally (see left image above) or vertically and shifted to fly (see right image above).

Royal Artic Line A/S

The company was based in Aalborg and Godthab (Grønland). Originally Den Kongelige Grønlandske Handel Trafikkavdelingen (The Royal Greenland Department of Trade and Traffic) until 1986 when it became Grønlands Handel (Greenland Trading) until 1993 when the current name was adopted, becoming with a fleet under own name and an operating subsidiary in Grønland.
In 1774 the Danish State took over trade with Greenland and Kongelige Grønlandske Handel (Royal Greenland Trade Department) was established. In 1986 the rights to service Grønland reverted to the Home Rule Government of Grønland, which continued trading until 1993 with the company KNI. In 1993 the Home Rule Government removed the transport section and Royal Arctic Line A/S was established with sole rights to all goods transport to and from the island.
Owner is the Danish Government The parent company is Royal Arctic Line Ltd., which is owned by the Home Rule Government. It is been 100% owned by the Home Rule Government of Grønland for the last 10 years.
The flag is white with a double red wave in an annulet of the same slightly shifted to hoist, all between two thin horizontal red edges.
