Waldshut County Coat of Arms

Shield parted by a bend wavy Argent, above left Vert a crozier Or in bend, beneath right Azure a turbine wheel Or.
Meaning:
The staff is taken from the old arms of the Säckingen district, an attribute of St. Fridolin, who founded the abbey and village of Säckingen in the 6th century. It is symbolising the many monasteries and abbeys in the district. The green colour is symbolising the woods. The silver bend is symbolising the Rhine river and its importance for the local economy. The lower part shows a wheel as a symbol for the hydro-electric power in the district. The wheel was also taken from the old arms of the district. The old arms were parted per pale and displayed a fir Vert stemmed Or on a triplemount Vert at dexter in a silver field and a cogwheel aover a bar wavy, both Argent in a red field. Tree, mount and river are symbolising the landscape, red and white hare the colours of Austria and the fir is representing the Counts of Hauenstein, whose reeve had been the chief forester with seat in Waldshut city.
