Stolpen Coat of Arms

Shield Or a castle Azure with embattled wall, closed gate and two embattled towers with cone roofs, between the towers a bishop issuant with robe and mitre Gules.
Meaning:
The local castle belonged to the Bishopric of Meißen since the early 13th century. The bishops administrated their possessions in Upper Lusatia (Oberlausitz) and resided in the castle since 1537 permanently. In 1559 the Electors of Sachsen enforced a change of castle and district with the district of Mühlberg. The arms are stressing that the castle belonged to the bishopric. The pattern is known from a local seal, which was made around 1500.
