Bad Schandau Coat of Arms

Renaissance shield Azure an ancient ship Argent with sail and pennant of the same sailing on a base of waves of the same.
Meaning:
Schandau was first mentioned as a city of the Bohemian Lordship of Hohnstein in 1445. In 1730 a mineral spring was discovered and Schandau turned to a spa. The prefix "Bad" (= spa) was added to the name in 1920. The current version of the arms is based on a seal from 1897. As a curiosity sail and pennant are blown in different directions by the wind, probably an error of the man, who made the seal. The vessel is symbolising shipping on the Elbe River and shipbuilding.

The banner is in use since 2000. The arms were granted in 1480 by Elector Ernst of Sachsen and his brother Duke Albrecht III of Sachsen.
