Knittlingen Coat of Arms

Shield Argent, two clubs Sable in saltire, superimposing an abbot's crozier Or in pale.
Knittlingen became a city in the 14th century as a possession of the Maulbronn Abbey. The city rights were confirmed in 1840. In 1534 the city became a dominion of Württemberg. The oldest known seal from around 1400 already displays the current pattern, wich had been used as arms since 1596. The two clubs (German: Knittel) are canting, the crozier is representing the Maulbronn Abbey. The crossed clubs varied in shape and were sometimes depicted behind the crozier, which sometimes had been depicted issuant from base. The pattern however basically never changed. The current version was introduced in 1976.
