    Hagenow Flag

    It is a red over yellow horizontal bicolour. In the upper hoist corner is a bishop's head in natural colour crowned by a mitre, i.e. the arms without shield.

    Hagenow Coat of Arms

    Shield Gules, a half length portrait of a bishop, haired Argent, dressed Or with a mitre Or decorated Gules with scarves of the same.
    Meaning:
    The bishop probably is St.Denis of Paris, patron saint of the local parish church. The arms are based on a city seal. Prints of the seal are known since 1420.

    The arms were granted on 10 April 1858 by Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. The flag was first used on 12 March 1996 and approved on 15 March 1996 by Minister of Interior of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Both were published in the Municipal Roll of Arms Mecklenburg-Vorpommern as no.49
