Bleicherode Coat of Arms

Shield Or, standing on a mount Vert a knight in armour Argent with Gothic helm crested by a pair of antlers of Gules and Argent, holding a sword Argent pointing downwards by his right hand and a shield chequered of Gules and Argent by his left hand.
Meaning:
Inescutcheon and antlers are taken from the family arms of the Counts of Hohnstein, former local rulers. The crest is also symbolising the hunting rights of the counts and the sword their local cognisance until the 16th century, when the city gained a proper court. Due to a legend the knight cleansed the surrounding forests from brigands and the thankful citizens placed his image onto the arms.
