Meaning:
The arms first appeared on a stained glass window from 1580 in the city hall, but are most likely much older. Later city seals all display the same pattern. The saint is St. James the Elder, recognisable by hat and pilgrim's baton, patron saint of the city. The inescutcheon displays the arms of the Margraves of Brandenburg. The city wall is symbolising the fortified character of the city in the past.
