It is a yellow-black vertical bicolour. The coat of arms is shifted towards the top, flanked by embowed white scrolls with inscriptions in black initials "BAYERN" (above) and "HOFMARK GERZEN" (below).

Oval shield Argent, surrounded by a Baroque frame Or, three hooks Or ordered 2:1, each one fixed by a nail of the same in bend sinister.
Meaning:
The description above belongs to the arms as given on flag. The official blazon displays black hooks and nails in a usual shield, but there are e.g. also golden hooks on a grey shield. The municipal arms are basically the family arms of the Counts of Vieregg, who ruled the Gerzen district (Bavarian: Hofmark) between 1587 and 1819. They also practised the low level cognisance. The pattern is known by seals from the 2nd half of the 14th century. The kin was based in Mecklenburg. Its members had been in imperial service as marshals during the Medieval. The pattern actually displays hunting horns and sceptres of an imperial marshal.
