Münchberg Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale, at dexter quartered of Sable and Argent, the Argent quarters charged with a serifed initial "M" Sable, at sinister Argent, standing on a triplemount issuant Vert a monk Sable.
Münchberg gained city rights in 1364 under the rule of the Lords of Sparneck. It was acquired in 1384 by the Zollern kin. The first seal was made the same time and displayed the quartered shield of the kin with initial on quarters 2 and 3 and again quartered on quarters 1 and 4. The current pattern appeared first on the 3rd city seal from 1562. The monk on a mount is a canting ensemble. The first coloured arms were based upon the seal from 1581 but with different tinctures. The current pattern was introduced in 1928.
