Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
Shield parted per pale, at dexter Gules a demi-stag passant couped per pale, at sinister chequered of 12 of Gules and Argent (3 x 4), in base mantled plain Or, chief Azure charged with a crozier Or in bend connected with a velum Argent.
Meaning:
The stag is taken from the arms of former Zorge Municipality, the Cistercian Bar, i.e. the chequered fields appeared in the arms of former Wieda Municipality and former Walkenried Municipality. Crozier and velum are probably alluding to the Cistercian Monastery of Walkenried. The arms are taken from former Walkenried Comprehensive Municipality.

Former Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
Shield quartered, 1st quarter chequered of 12 of Gules and Argent, 2nd quarter Azure, a mitre Argent garnished Or superimposing a crozier Or in bend sinister, 3rd quarter Azure a lion rampant Or tongued Gules, 4th quarter Argent an antler Sable.
Meaning:
The quarters 1 and 2 are referring to Walkenried Monastery, founded by Cistercians. The chequered field might be considered to be a Cistercian bar. The lion is that one of the Dukes of Braunschweig.The antler is alluding to forests and hunting.
