Eppenschlag Coat of Arms

Shield Argent, a bladed lower demi-wheel Gules under an axe of the same in bend sinister, mantled Azure charged with a fess Argent at dexter and a fess wavy of the same at sinister.
Meaning:
The bladed wheel is an attribute of St. Catherine, the local patron saint. The axe is canting and alluding to forest clearance (Bavarian: Schlag) caused by Eppo, the legendary founder of the village. The white fess on blue is taken from the arms of the Counts of Hals, manorial lords in the village in the 14th century. The fess is also symbolising the trunk road B85. The fess wavy is representing the former municipality of Marbach and symbolising the Röhrnnachbach, a creek, which marked the border between the court districts of Bärnstein and Regen. The tinctures silver and red are those of the Bishopric of Passau, silver and blue those of the Wittelsbach kin. Bishops and later dukes had been the local rulers in the past.
