Niederalteich Coat of Arms

Shield Or parted by a fess wavy Azure, issuant from base a triplemount Vert, in chief a crozier Gules in bend under a slasher of the same in bend sinister.
Meaning:
The lower half displays the arms of the famous Benedictine Niederalteich Monastery, which had been founded in the 8th century. The monastery had been of great impoprtance for the local development. The abbot's crozier is also alluding to the monastery, which had been upgraded to an abbey. Until its secularisation in 1803 the local district (Bavarian: Hofmark) had been a flourishing area, to which belonged 125 farms in 1760. The blue fess wavy is a representation of the Donau River (Danube). The slasher had been used for cutting of reed. It is symbolising the efforts of cultivation of the local people.
