Coat of Arms

Shield Azure, a beaver rampant Or crownwd of the same.
Meaning:
Biberach was already a city in 1240 and the oldest seal is known since 1258. The seal displayed the canting beaver (German: Biber) between a tree and the Imperial Eagle. In later seals the two animals were placed on two small shields flanking a bush. At the same time the beaver was placed in an inescutcheon upon the breast of the eagle. In 1488 Emperor Friedrich III granted new arms having the current pattern, just before the arms had displayed a blue beaver, crowned and armed red, on a silver shield. The eagle finally disappeared since 1802, after the city had become a dominion of Württemberg.
