Sable a warrior statant Proper helmet Or clad in tunic and belt Gules over trews Argent cross-gartered and shoed of the Fourth and under a coat of plates also Argent a sword and dagger of this last hilted Or in his dexter hand a spear hafted Or armed Argent and in his sinister a round shield of the Same garnished Gules.
(This is about the longest blazon I have ever attempted.)

According a popular tale the man on the emblem shows the Alemannic warrior Hatzo, who is said to be the founder of the village.

Since 1 January 2011 Hätzingen is part of Glarus Süd commune.

In 2004 Hätzingen merged intermediately with Diesbach and Luchsingen into the new commune of Luchsingen.
