The municipality of Rosana (19,691 inhabitants in 2010; 74,122 ha) is located in northwestern São Paulo State, on the borders with Mato Grosso do Sul and Paraná, 760 km of São Paulo. The municipality is made of the town of Rosana proper and of the district of Primavera, established by Municipal Law no. 215 of 8 April 1994.

Rosana was founded by the "Camargo Correia" company, at the end of the Dourado branch of the Sorocabana railway, close to the confluence of rivers Paranapanema and Paraná. Named for one of the daughters of Sebastião Camargo, the new town belonged to the municipality of Presidente Epitácio. The district of Rosana was established by Law No. 8,050 of 31 December 1963. The municipality of Rosana was established by State Law No. 6,645 of 9 January 1990; following a plebiscite organized on 5 November 1989, and inaugurated on 1 January 1993.

The symbols of Rosana are prescribed in Article 2 of the Municipal Constitution, adopted on 26 May 1993, as "the flag, the coat of arms, the anthem and the motto 'NOSSA RIQUEZA é A NOSSA GENTE', representative of its culture and history. The municipal colours are prescribed as star white, King blue, "caiçara" blue and leaf green. These prescriptions are amendments adopted on 29 March 2006.

The flag of Rosana was designed by Marcelo Coelho Sanches. The colours are given as "caiçara" blue, King (dark) blue, and leaf green. The dimensions of the flag are 14 units x 20 units. The diameter of the disk is 8 units. The coat of arms has a height of 6.5 units.

The two blue stripes represent the two main rivers that water Rosana. The green stripe is a symbol the aspiration to a prosperous and happy future. It also represents the exuberance of the primary forest. The disk is a symbol of eternity, being a geometric figure without either a beginning or a end. White is a symbol of peace and harmony. The whole represents the aspiration to preserve forever the municipal autonomy, obtained after harsh struggle, and to always keep the benefit of harmony and peace.

The flag of Rosana, designed by Lauro Ribeiro Escobar, is "An Iberian shield, or a pall wavy azure charged with three thunderbolts of the first cantonned by three heraldic roses gules. The shield surmounted by an eight-towered mural crown argent ports sable. The shield supported by two "dourados" fish* proper. Beneath the shield a scroll azure inscribed with the municipality' name in letters or."

The Iberian shield, used in Portugal at the time of discovery of Brazil, evokes the first colonizers and builders of the country. Or is a symbol of wealth, splendour, generosity, nobleness, glory, power, force, faith and, prosperity. The pall represents the confluence of rivers Paranapanema and Paraná, located on the municipal territory. Azure is a symbol of justice, beauty, sweetness, nobleness, perseverance, vigilance, serenity, constancy, incorruptible firmness, dignity, zeal, loyalty and recreation. The thunderbolts are a symbol of power, representing here hydroelectric energy supplied by the Rosana and Primavera plants; or represents here force and resulting prosperity. The roses, a symbol of beauty, honour and suavity, are the namesake of the town. Gules is a symbol of audacity, valour, valiance, intrepidity, magnanimity, honour and nobleness. The mural crown is a symbol of municipal emancipation; the open ports are a symbol of hospitality.

*"Dourado" is the angler's name of different species belonging to genus Salminus
