The explicit description of the flag was added in Municipal Law No. 757 promulgated on 6 May 1967.

Article 1.
Article 1 of Law No. 113 promulgated on 6 May 1967 shall be altered as follows.

Article 1.
The municipal flag of Sertão is rectangular, in dimensions 2 m in length on 1.20 m in width, in colors white, turquoise blue and golden yellow, charged in the center with two triangles with opposed angles and, in the center, the municipality's coat of arzms and motto, "Perseverança e Trabalho".

The coat of arms of Sertão is prescribed by Municipal Law No. 34 promulgated on 26 August 1964.

Article 1.
The symbol of the municipality is composed of a coat of arms divided into two sectors.
In the first sector, a Brazilian pine forest under a blue sky. In the second sector, on a field or a maize cob and a pig in a plowed field and a factory with a chimney representing the business park.
The shield supported by a heat and a soybean plants.
The shield surmounted by a mural crown argent with three fortresses, symbol of the rank of "cidade", the three fortresses representing the three sub-districts that compose the municipality.
