The municipality of Santana de Boa Vista (8,242 inhabitants in 2010; 14,206 ha) is located

Santana de Boa Vista was founded in 1822 by Jacinto Inácio da Silva (1772-1841). Severely injured in 1821 by a jaguar during a hunting party, he invoked Our Lady of St. Ann; after having eventually killed the beast with a knife, he erected a chapel as a reward for the divine help.
The municipality of Santana de Boa Vista was established on 17 September 1965 and inaugurated on 6 May 1966.

The coat of arms of Santana de Boa Vista features:
1. Towers above the shield, indicating the rank of "cidade".
2. A blue upper part, representing the limpid sky.
3. A red cross on a green field, emphasizing faith as the cause of the historic foundation of the town.
4. Yellow mounts in the center, representing mining resources and topography.
5. A green lower part, representing forests and fields.
6. A walking jaguar, representing the way to progress.
7. An oxen representing progress.
8. A white brook, representing the mountain's pure water.
9. Maize and bean plants, representing agricultural production.
10. A scroll beneath the shield indicating the municipality's date of foundation, name and year of emancipation.
