Presentation of COIB / BOIC

Comité Olympique Belge (COB - Belgian Olympic Committee) was founded on 18 February 1906 to prepare the Belgian team for the 1906 Intercalated Games - organized in Athens to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the 1896 Olympic Games, initially recognized by the IOC but dropped from the official list in 1949.
On 16 July 1925, COB merged with Comité National d'Éducation Physique (Physical Education National Committee); it was then presided by Count Henri de Baillet-Latour (1876-1942), also President of the IOC (1925-1942).
In 1978, COB was renamed to Comité Olympique et Interfédéral Belge (COIB) / Belgisch Olympisch en Interfederaal Comité (BOIC), acting as the coordinating structure of 76 national sports federations, for both Olympic and non-Olympic sports, and of course as the IOC-recognized Belgian Olympic Committee.
