The coat of arms of the free city shows a shield divided twice across. Its upper field is blue, the middle one green, the lower one is again blue, added with reddish waves as a symbol for the lake Neusiedlersee. Natural reed leaves grow from the second dividing line in the middle section, and three natural reed heads fan out from there, extending into the upper section. The shield, surrounded by an o rnate golden border, is topped by a golden crown set with jewels, with five visible leaf prongs between which four pearl prongs are attached.
