Here is a current flag of Ohio University in Athens, OH, the home of The Bobcats. An older flag for Ohio University consists of a bobcat paw, green on white. Even though not in use as much, this and the other flag are still both flown at the University Student Center.

State flag variant

I attended the Eastern Michigan U. vs. Ohio University today in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Ohio U.'s team ran out onto the field with a variant of the Ohio state flag where red is replaced with green. You can see it at the campus bookstore website (so clearly this is a "thing" at Ohio U.): http://cbsohiou.com.

By changing the colors of the state of Ohio flag, this becomes a "coopted" design. Fans of Ohio State often use the unaltered state of Ohio flag.
