No Flag

It appears Yajalón does not use a municipal flag.

Coat of Arms

image from Facebook

According to information on Facebook, the coat of arms of Yajalón was adopted in 1990, being adopted through a contest for the creation of a municipal coat of arms which was carried out on 21 July that year, held by the Chiapan Institute of Culture; today the University of Sciences and Arts of Chiapas, and the House of Culture of Yajalón. It was designed by the teacher Luis Morán Villatoro who originated from here, who also designed the coat of arms of Tuxtla Gutiérrez a few years after. Going around the lower part of the shield, a green ribbon reads in yellow letters "SIEMPRE VERDE 1564 SIEMPRE FÉRTIL" [Always Green, Always Fertile]; the first part alluding to its name which means "Green land", the year for its foundation. Above the shield is a yellow ribbon which reads "YAJALÓN".

The shield has a shape similar to an arrowhead, having at its top two halves: the left one being blue and the right one red, signifying the two neighborhoods that gave origin to Yajalón, named Tianguistepeque and Ixtepeque. In its center, a coffee bean is depicted as a representation of the primary economic activity of the municipality. For the larger main section of the shield, having a gray field, it depicts the Ajkabalana Hill, of which its name means "house of night"; the sun goes to set here, so the sun is placed behind it. Green land is also depicted, also alluding to its name. A Latin cross is placed over soil, indicating the town's foundation by the Dominican missionaries. Under it, the Yajalón River is depicted, indicating the fertility of the land.
