The municipality is made of the town of Capivari do Sul and of the districts
of Rancho Velho (located 11 km from Capivari) and Santa Rosa (located 7 km

Capybara River. The attribute "do Sul" was added for the sake of
differentiation from the municipalities of Capivari (Săo Paulo) and Capivari
	de Baixo (Santa Catalina).
The district of Capivari was established
by Municipal Law No. 1,752 of 9 September 1980, from parts of the districts
of Passinhos and Palmares, in the municipality of Osório. The municipality
of Capivaru was established by State Law No. 10,634 of 28 December 1995.
