Introduction

Texas is the first state in the USA for which the Thin Line Flag designs have appeared which are derived from the state flag. (The designs derived from other states' flags also exist, but currently appear only as the patches, decals, and the like.)

Texas Blue Line Flag

It is derived from the state flag by repainting blue and red fields into black and gray, respectively, changing the ratio from 2:3 into 3:5, and adding a blue horizontal stripe, its width being about 1/12 of the flag width, over all three fields but under the star. This image is derived from the SVG image of the state flag from Wikimedia Commons: commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Flag_of_Texas.svg.

The thin blue line is an emblem of our respect and support for police and law enforcement. It represents the role that peace officers fill in our communities as protectors against criminals and potential victimhood. The center blue line represents the courage of the officer, while the black reminds us of those who have fallen in the line of duty.

Texas Red Line Flag

It is derived from the state flag by repainting blue and red fields into black and gray, respectively, changing the ratio from 2:3 into 3:5, and adding a red horizontal stripe, its width being about 1/12 of the flag width, over all three fields but under the star. The thin red line is a symbol of the courage firefighters display, putting their own lives secondary to those they protect, while the black background is a constant reminder of those who have fallen in the line of duty. This iconic flag represents the active service role that fire and rescue personnel provide to the public on a daily basis.
