The municipality of Babušnica (12,307 inhabitants in 2011, 4,601 in the town of Babušnica; 39,500 ha) is located on the border with Bulgaria, 25 km south-west of Pirot and 70 km south-east of Niš.

The coat of arms features in the center the local "spomenik" (war monument erected during the Socialist period).

In honor of the fallen fighters from Lužnica in the First and Second World Wars, a monument was erected in the center of Babušnica, according to the designs of sculptor D. Bogdanović. The monument was unveiled in November 1954. The monument to the whole consists of a two-meter-high pedestal on which a group sculpture of fighters with weapons in various poses is placed. On the pedestal there are written war years and a relief with scenes of battles.
