Presentation of G17 Plus

G17 Plus was founded in 1997 as a NGO aiming to promote and practically implement the ideas of a modern market economy, open and democratic society and the rule of law. Its founders were the Group 17, or G17 (hence the name), a group of experts, mostly economists, who were critical towards the Milošević regime's policies.
In 2000, G17 Plus supported the Democratic Opposition of Serbia and is often considered, along with the Resistance (Otpor), as one of chief contributors to the election results and subsequent regime change. In 2002, G17 Plus was transformed into a political party which participated in all coalition governments, in 2004-2012 as a standalone party and in 2012-2013 as the chief member of the United Regions of Serbia (Ujedinjeni regioni Srbije), a coalition of nationwide and regional parties which was transformed into a single party in 2013. A detail of vexillological interest is that the basic design of the flag and arms of Serbia was introduced in 2004, when the Chairman of the National Assembly was Predrag Marković (biography) of G17 Plus; as the standard of the Chairman was introduced at the same time, he was the first person entitled to use it.

Flag of G17 Plus

The flag of G17 Plus was dark blue with the party logo (image) in the center. The logo was a dark blue square, fimbriated light gray and charged with the words "G17 PLUS", arranged so that digit "1" forms the part of letter "G". Word "G17" was gray (same shade as the fimbriation) and word "PLUS" was white. Both the logo and the flag were adopted by the original NGO, shortly after it was founded.

Two much less used variants of the flag were charged with the logo on a white field. On one of these, the logo was in full colors. This variant was used since the mid-2000s. The other variant was charged with a different version of the logo: a white square, fimbriated dark blue and with the inscriptions in the same color. This variant of the logo was introduced some time before 2000 and used during the early 2000s, when the flag was used as well.
